Well the Oyster Season is coming to an End around Sargent Texas. The season ends in April for Texas. It has been a good year for Oysters as they continue their recovery from the drought that so affected them for the last 5 years out of 8 years.
Of course the State of Texas monitors Reefs for their protection and Opens and closes them during season. Call their office to find out current areas open for Harvest. Check their website if you have Licence and want to Harvest. TDSHS website
We are so blessed having active wonderful Oyster Reefs so close to Sargent.
Many people have contacted me and asked why there was no Seafood Festival in Matagorda this year. There are no easy answers to that question. We can only hope that it returns next year. All of us on the Gulf Coast so appreciate what the Treybig’s have done in the Past and what a great asset the Fest was to Matagorda and the Sargent Area. So if you ever meet them. Thank them for incredible fun and money donated to Schools and more in Matagorda County.
This is a video showing the Proximity of our most famous Reefs in East Matagorda Bay to Sargent Texas.
So as the Season winds down realize what a great Resource the Oyster Beds and Reefs are to East Matagorda Bay and Sargent. We must continue to protect and respect them. For they are the reason the Bay is so Wild. Yes East Matagorda Bay is still virtually Wild. Conserve it and Respect it. Always lift your Motor when right on Top of a Reef. Never throw Lead Sinkers near the Reef. Keep it Wild and Clean.
