Sargent Mitchell's Cut From The Air This week we take to the air over Mitchell's Cut in Sargent. I have been working on my boat. So instead of writing about Sargent we got you up in the air for a  birds eye view of Mitchell's Cut. Sargent Texas| Rainy weather for Ducks Happy New Year Ducks still quacking in Sargent Texas which has experience some well needed rains the last few weeks. Both the San Bernand Wildlife Preserve and Big Boggy have great conditions. Lets be honest the Ducks liked the rain more then the people of Sargent do.  We have lots  of freshwater passing Sargent and into East Matagorda Bay. Great for the Bay and ecosystem. Colorado River used to flow though Sargent and Caney Creek

Colorado River used to drain out at Sargent Beach About 1000 years ago the Colorado River which drains parts of the Hill country and Austin jumped out of its main channel at Glen Floral Texas. Then it headed to the Gulf though Caney Creek. In relatively recent geological time of the past 6,000 years  Texas Rivers  rivers would changed their course from time to time. The flow of the Colorado river would empty into the Gulf of Mexico at Sargent Beach.. San Bernard Wildlife Refuge near Sargent Texas

Sargent Texas is surrounded by some incredible wildlife  refuges. This insures incredible bird watching, hunting and fishing recreation around Sargent into the future.   These preserves include the San Bernard Wildlife Refuge to our east. Big Boggy to our west which included Dresser Point or Bird Island.  It is a major rookery for Pelicans and other seabirds. As you head north of Sargent along Cayney Creek to the east run into Dance Bayou Forested  Track which is one of the last great intact Bottomland Southern Forest left in the United States. East Matagorda Bay Fall fishing On!

Watch Tides this week.  I would  fish the surf around the Sargent Cliffs on the Beach. Trout also are good on live shrimp over shell in East Matagorda bay all week.  The Redfish run is starting to heat up around Mitchells cut too.  Reds are really starting to run. Croaker are hot now too. If you never caught a two or three pound croaker this could be your time of the year to do it. The Croaker run is going at full speed and they are huge.  The kids really love catching them. I do too. The wind still is blowing across the bay. Usually it sets down in early June but this year it keep blowing across East Matagorda Bay. The Sargent Ecosystem is ready for this and has received some much needed rain over the last few weeks.
